Springfield, Mass. - March 12, 2018 - Springfield College's Shelby Corsano (Bourne, Mass.) and Andie Stone (Burlington, Conn.) were both recongized for their impressive performances last week, as the duo swept the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) weekly honors, announced on Monday morning.
Corsano, a senior Health Science major at Springfield College, was named the NEWMAC and ECAC Women's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week, while Stone was selected as the NEWMAC and ECAC Women's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week.
Corsano, a senior attacker for Springfield College, helped lead the Pride to a pair of wins over Framingham State and Chapman this past week, as she totaled 15 points on 10 goals and five assists, while also collecting seven draw controls and one ground ball. Corsano began the week with a career-best nine points on seven goals, two assists and seven draw controls, before leading the Pride to a win in its first of two games on the West Coast, a 13-6 victory over Chapman. Against the Panthers, Corsano notched a game-high six points on three goals and three assists.
Stone, a junior defender for Springfield College, was instrumental in a pair of wins for the Pride this past week, including victories over Framingham State and Chapman. Against Framingham State, Stone led a defensive unit that only allowed eight goals as the junior totaled a career-high six caused turnovers and three ground balls, before coming back on Saturday and leading Springfield to its second win of the week with four caused turnovers, three ground balls and a career-high seven draw controls.
Springfield College will return to play on Wednesday, March 14 as the Pride will play No. 22 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Claremont, Calif. at 7 p.m. EDT.
