Ewing, N.J. - January 29, 2017 - The visiting Springfield College wrestling could not recover from an early deficit and was bested by The College of New Jersey, 30-19, on Sunday afternoon.
The Pride held an early 6-4 advantage after two bouts thanks to Ian Tolotti (Dumont, N.J.) earning a medical forfeit at 133. After TCNJ won a major decision at 141 and benefited from a injury default at 149 to build its lead to 14-6, Springfield's Zach Joseph (Clifton Park, N.Y.) responded for the Pride with a hard-fought 9-2 decision at 157.
However, the Lions answered back with three-consecutive wins, including a major decision at 165, a pin at 174, and a forfeit at 184 as its lead ballooned to 30-9.
Springfield picked up points on a forfeit at 197, Joseph Fusco (Billerica, Mass.) ended the match on a high-note for the Pride when he delivered a major decision at 285.
The Pride will battle several local foes this upcoming Wednesday when it heads to Western New England University to compete in the City of Springfield Championship.
