Wrestling Powers Past Norwich, 32-12

Springfield, Mass. - January 16, 2019 - The Springfield College wrestling team used pins from Ryan Peters (Wells, Maine) and Nick Monteleone (Hackensack, N.J.) to fuel a 32-12 victory over Norwich on Wednesday night in Blake Arena.

The match started at 285 and Springfield's Joseph Fusco (Billerica, Mass.) cruised to an 18-5 major decision before a forfeit by Norwich at 125 allowed the Pride to surge ahead, 10-0.  After the Cadets answered with a pin in just 32 seconds at 133, Peters responded with a first-period pin of his own at 141, as he earned six points with a pinfall in 2:19 to give the hosts a 16-6 lead.

Michael Vietri (Dumont, N.J.) continued to keep the pressure up for the Pride with a 16-7 major decision at 149, and Monteleone delivered a tremendous showing at 157 that resulted in a pin in 4:35.  The Pride's lead would then balloon to 29-6 when Alec Falconer (North Potomac, Md.) posted a 13-9 decision at 165.  Norwich would use a decision at 174 to close with 29-9, but Ryan Gray (Milford, Mass.) grinded out a 2-0 win at 184 to push the hosts ahead by a score of 32-9.  The Cadets closed out the evening with sudden-victory decision at 197 to conclude the dual meet, 32-12 in favor of Springfield.

The Pride will now turn its focus on the NEWA Duals, which will take place on Sunday.
