No. 13 TCNJ Tops Wrestling, 38-7

Ewing Township, N.J. - January 25, 2019 - The Springfield College wrestling team was defeated by The College of New Jersey, 38-7, on Friday evening. This marked the second time in the last two weeks that the two teams have squared off, as TCNJ previously bested the Pride in the semifinals of the Budd Whitehill Duals on January 12. 

The Lions, who were ranked 13th in the country in the latest NWCA National Polls, won eight of the 10 bouts on Friday, including the first seven.   After claiming the first three victories of the night, including a pin at 141, TCNJ then used a major decision at 149, a decision at 157, a forfeit at 165, and another pin at 174 to open up a 32-0 advantage.

Seve Burgos (Guilford, Conn.) put Springfield on the board with a 9-3 decision at 184, only to have TCNJ respond with their third pin of the night at 197.  Springfield's Joseph Fusco (Billerica, Mass.) ended the match on a high note for the Pride thanks to a 17-3 major decision at 285. 

Springfield will return to Blake Arena on Saturday night when it hosts Wesleyan at 7 pm.
