Silva Strikes Twice in Second Half as Women's Soccer Defeats Mount Holyoke

South Hadley, Mass. - October 18, 2016 - Junior Mary Silva (Ludlow, Mass.) struck twice in the opening minutes of the second half to lift the Springfield College women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Mount Holyoke in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Tuesday night at the MHC Soccer Field.

With the win, the Pride is now 8-4-2 on the year and 4-2-2 in the NEWMAC, while the Lyons fall to 7-8-0 overall and 2-6 in league play. Springfield College held a 29-5 advantage in shots, while posting 11 corner kicks to Mount Holyoke's zero.

In net, junior goalkeeper Ciara Boucher (Manchester, Conn.) only needed to make three saves to secure her fifth shutout of the year, while her counterpart, Zoe Marshall (Mississauga, Ont.), made nine stops in the setback.

After a scoreless first half of play, it only took the Pride 1:18 into the second half to get on the board as Silva buried a chance set up by Elizabeth Monsen (Wayne, N.J.) to give Springfield College a 1-0 lead. Just 9:21 later, Silva found the back of the net on an unassisted strike to push the Pride's lead to a pair.

The Pride was able to fend off a late rally from Mount Holyoke to escape with the 2-0 victory.

Next up, Springfield College will return to Brock-Affleck Field when it hosts WPI on Saturday, October 22 at 1 p.m.
