Women's Swimming and Diving Powers Past Wheaton and Keene State

Springfield, Mass. - November 19, 2016 - The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team earned victories over Wheaton and Keene State on Saturday aftenroon in Linkletter Natatorium.

The Pride prevailed over Wheaton, 170.5-129.5, and eased past Keene State, 218-80, to provide a pair of wins in front of a great crowd as Springfield celebrated it's 100th Year of Swimming and Diving today.

Olivia Paione (Auburn, Maine) raced to multiple first place finishes on the day after posting a 54.75 in the 100 Free, a 1:57.41 in the 200 Free, and a 2:15.40 in the 200 IM. Freshman Kate O'Connor (Manchester, Conn.), also saw success in the 200 Free with a time of 2:02.34, which was good for third.

Springfield had the top three finishers in the 200 Fly, with Emily Medeiros (Wakefield, Mass.) taking first in 2:16.12, Danielle Hoffner (Bridgewater, N.J.) taking second in 2:18, and Lauren Longley (Westfield, Mass.) taking third in 2:18.39. Medeiros also registered other first place performances in the 200 Breast with a 2:18.07 and the 100 Fly with a 1:00.84.

Haley Cordery (Berkley, Mass.) sprinted to first in the 50 free in 25.87 and was the runner up in both the 200 Free, with a 5:25.67, and the 1000 Free, with a 11:03.56. Teammate Natalie Waetcher (Ventura,Calif.) finished third in the 1000 Free with a time of 11:26.67.

Christine Shea (Peabody, Mass.) finished first in the 100 Breast in 1:09.20, and second in the 200 Breast with 2:32.85. Freshman Mackenzie Coleman (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) touch third in the 100 Back with a 1:03.90, third in the 200 Back with a 2:17.46, and second in the 200 IM with a 2:19.44.

In the diving events, Kayla Dvorchak (Monson, Mass.) finished second in the 1 Meter with a score of 202.95, and third in the 3 Meter with a score of 197.45.

The Pride will compete again tomorrow, November 20, when they head to Williams College.
