Williams Holds Off Women's Swimming and Diving

Williamstown, Mass. - November 20, 2016 - Competing for the second time in as many days, the Springfield College women's swimming and diving team was bested by Williams College, 175-117, on Sunday afternoon. 

The Pride opened the meet with a third-place finish in the 400 medley relay as Mackenzie Coleman (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.), Christine Shea (Peadbody, Mass.), Emily Medeiros (Wakefield, Mass.), and Olivia Paione (Auburn, Maine) combined to swim a 4:09.93.

Medeiros highlighted the individual efforts on the day as she won the 100 breast with a 1:07.00, while Shea took third in 1:10.14 and Paione placed fourth in 1:11.50.  In the 200 breast, Medeiros swam a 2:25.97 to take second, while Shea's time of 2:32.71 was good for third.

Coleman was the runner-up in the 200 back after touching in 2:19.96 and placed fourth in the 100 back with a 1:05.31, while Paione swam the third-fastest time of the 200 IM in 2:17.19 and sprinted to a fourth-place finish in the 50 free with a 25.66.

Haley Cordery (Berkley, Mass.) touched third in the 200 free in 2:02.01 as well as the 100 free with a 57.10, and Lauren Longley (Westfield, Mass.) took fourth in the 1,000 free in 11:27.24.

Danielle Hofner (Bridgewater, N.J.) delivered a third-place finish in the 200 fly with a 2:21.60, closely followed by Haley Nolan's (Lowell, Mass.) fourth-place time of 2:24.62.  Nolan also took third in the 500 free in 5:28.19

In the diving events, Kayla Dvorchak (Monson, Mass.) was third on the one-meter after tallying a 195.22, and teammate Kayla Broyles (Bristol, Conn.) was fourth after notching a 189.90.  On the three-meter Dvorchak was the runner-up with a 195.45, while Broyles score of 186.90 was good for third.

Springfield will now prepare to compete in the Ithaca Invitational, which will take place on December 2-4.
