Middlebury, Vt. - January 28, 2017 - The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team competed at the 2017 Middlebury Invitational on Friday and Saturday in a non-scoring meet against teams from Williams, Tufts, the University of Vermont, and the host, Middlebury.
Junior Kassandra Lamb (Reading, Mass.) had multiple notable performances on the weekend, highlighted by a third-place finish in the 400 IM with a time of 4:46.78. Lamb also took ninth in the 500 Free with a 5:19.17, before nabbing fifth in the 200 Back with a 2:16.64.
Friday's events included the 200 IM, in which Olivia Paione (Auburn, Maine) and Emily Medeiros (Wakefield, Mass.) were the Pride's top finishers, touching the wall in 2:13.77 and 2:14.69. Monique Forte (Smithfield, R.I.) followed with a solid performance in the 50 Free, finishing in 26.45.
In the 1650 free, Haley Cordery (Berkley, Mass.) earned second with a time of 18:39.24 to edge out several other members of the Pride.
On Saturday, Paoine had an impressive showing in the 200 free, racing to third in 1:57.96. She and Christine Shea (Peabody, Mass.) were the Pride's top finishers in the 100 Breast, with Shea swimming a 1:10.53 and Paione swimming a 1:10.93. Cordery later swam a 1:04.26 to garner fifth-place in the 100 Back, an event that had four Springfield swimmers in the top-ten.
The evening session included the 100 free, where Medeiros and freshman Kate O'Connor (Manchester, Conn.) finished in 56.45 and 56.80. Freshman Mackenzie Coleman (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) followed with a fourth-place finish in the 200 breast, with a time of 2:38.57.
The 400 Medley Relay was Springfield's top relay finish of the weekend, as the team of Medeiros, Paione, Coleman, and Danielle Hoffner (Bridgewater, N.J.) raced to fourth place in 4:08.10.
On the three-meter board, Sierra Skaza (Belchertown, Mass.) had a standout showing, taking third with a 431.30, while Kayla Broyles (Bristol, Conn.) was the top finisher for Springfield on the one-meter board as she placed sixth with a 359.55.
The Pride will return to action on Sunday, January 29 to take on Amherst College at 1:00pm.
