Women's Swimming and Diving Finishes Fifth at Ithaca Invitational

Ithaca, N.Y. - December 2, 2018 - The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team finished fifth at the Ithaca Invitational, which concluded on Sunday after three days of competition.

11 teams from around the region competed over the weekend, with Cornell winning the invitational with 1,705.5 points.  SUNY Geneseo took second with 1,401 points, while Rochester (951), Ithaca (744), and Springfield (701.5) comprised the top five. 

The women competed in six events on Sunday, starting with the 1,650 free, in which Hannah Savoie (Milford, Conn.) finished in 12th-place after touching in 18:55.10.  In the 100 free, Haley Cordery (Berkley, Mass.) turned in a time of 55.01, while Grace Moore (Glastonbury, Conn.) had a tremendous showing in the 200 back, registering a 2:07.31 en route to a fourth-place finish.

Olivia Paione (Auburn, Maine) raced the 200 breast in 2:25.57, which proved to be the sixth-fastest time among the 40-plus competitors in the event.   In the final event of the weekend, Paione, Cordery, Izzy Ripp (Selden, N.Y.), and Moore posted a 3:38.17 in the 400 free relay.

Springfield will compete for the final time this semester when it hosts Middlebury at 1 pm on Saturday.
