Hartwick, N.Y. - January 12, 2019 - The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team had a successful start to the second half of their season as they bested both Union and Hartwick on Saturday afternoon. The Pride edged Hartwick, 153-141, and cruised past Union, 175-123.
Springfield opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay as Grace Moore (Glastonbury, Conn.), Izzy Ripp (Selden, N.Y.), Brianna Magee (Hauppauge, N.Y.), and Haley Cordery (Berkley, Mass.) turned in a 1:54.92.
In the 200 free, Olivia Paione (Auburn, Maine) swam a winning time of 1:59.35, followed by Cordery's second-place time of 2:02.87. Cordery also registered second-place points in the 100 free in after delivering a 56.36. Paione would later go on to win two more events as she captured the 200 breast in 2:31.15 and the 200 IM in 2:14.80.
Moore was victorious in the 100 backs in 1:01.29 and breezed past the competition in the 200 back with a time of 2:11.76, more than five seconds faster than the next racer. The first-year also finished third in the 100 fly in 1:02.22. Sierra Skaza (Belchertown, Mass.) captured the one-meter board with a 244.65 and took first-place points on the three-meter after scoring a 252.30.
Hannah Savoie (Milford, Conn.) took third in the 1,000 free with a 11:17.68, Amelia McKenzie (Charlton, Mass.) swam the third-fastest time in the 100 breast in 1:14.38, and Madisen Crowley (Manchester, Conn.) was third in the 200 fly after touching in 2:17.55.
Magee was the runner up in the 50 free in 26.22, while in the 500 free, Lauren Longley (Westfield, Mass.) had the Pride's best showing with a 5:39.85.
In the final event of the afternoon, the squad of Ripp, Magee, Monique Forte (Providence, R.I.) and Paione completed the 400 free relay in 3:51.02.
Springfield will have another tri-meet next Saturday when it hosts Roger Williams and Wesleyan starting at 1 pm.
