Worcester, Mass. - January 26, 2019 - The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team was bested by Holy Cross University, 186-110, on Saturday as the Pride battled their second Division I opponent of the season.
Olivia Paione (Auburn, Maine) won the 100 breast in 1:08.55 and the 200 breast in 2:27.27, claiming both races by more than two seconds. In the 50 free, Haley Cordery (Berkley, Mass.) finished as the runner-up in a 26.24 and later posted a 2:17.99 in the 200 back. Lauren Longley (Westfield, Mass.) had Springfield's best time in the 1,000 free with a 11:31.22, as well as in the 100 fly, after recording a 1:03.12, while Hillary Gallagher (East Greenwich, R.I.) turned in a 1:03.81 in the 100 back.
Bailee Carey (Quincy, Mass.) took second in both diving events as she tallied a 224.62 on the one-meter, while on the three-meter board, scored a 225.97. Madisen Crowley (Manchester, Conn.) completed the 200 fly in 2:18.79 and Izzy Ripp (Selden, N.Y.) produced a 57.45 in the 100 free. In the 400 IM, Grace Moore (Glastonbury, Conn.) turned in the Pride's fastest time with a 4:48.41, finished second in the 500 free after registering a 5:23.28, and was the runner up in the 200 free after posting a 2:00.25.
The Pride's 400 medley relay of Moore, Paione, Danielle Hoffner (Bridgewater, N.J.), and Cordery notched a 4:07.41, while the 200 free relay closed out the meet with Brianna Magee (Hauppauge, N.Y.), Amelia McKenzie (Charlton, Mass.), Ripp, and Paione combining for a 1:43.35.
Springfield will conclude their regular season next Sunday when they host nationally-ranked Amherst at 1 pm.
