Cambridge, Mass. - March 2, 2019 - Two Springfield College women's divers competed on the three-meter board at the 2019 NCAA Division III Diving Regional Championship, which took place at the Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center Pool at MIT on Saturday afternoon.
A total of 22 women's diver were competing for seven spots from the region to earn a bid to the 2019 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships, which will be held on March 20-23, 2019, at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Just hours after hitting the board on her ninth dive in the one-meter portion of the competition and going to the hospital on Friday night, Sierra Skaza (Belchertown, Mass.) put together a remarkable display of courage and determination on Saturday. The senior produced a score of 460.90 to finish in fifth place and will now await the official announcement from the NCAA as to whether she'll receive a bid to the national meet. Teammate Bailee Carey (Quincy, Mass.) turned in a 403.50 as she finished in 13th place to round out an impressive showing on the regional stage.
