Worcester, Mass. - September 20, 2016 - The Springfield College women's tennis program picked up its third-straight win, and second in conference play, as the Pride defeated Clark University, 6-3, on Tuesday night in Worcester.
With the win, the Pride is now 3-3 on the year, while the Cougars fall to 3-4 overall.
The Pride took a 2-1 lead after doubles play, benefitting from Rachel London (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and Melissa Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) defeating Isabelle Long (Bellevue, Wash.) and Misa Mai (Sanford, Maine), 8-3, in the No. 1 doubles slot, and Emily Etter (Guilford, Conn.) and Cara Freadman (Richmond, Mass.) besting Anna Gates (North Scituate, R.I.) and Maggie Tarbox (Lebanon, Conn.), 8-1, at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, the Pride utilized wins from Rachel Litchfield (Northbridge, Mass.), Etter, Freadman and Nicole Piazza (Portland, Conn.) to seal the win. Litchfield defeated Adrien Horowitz (Arvada, Colo.) 6-3, 6-0, in the No. 3 singles slot, while Etter downed Gates, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4. Freadman defeated Mai, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 singles, while Piazza showed her resiliency and beat Amy Fallon (Derby, England), 6-3, 5-7, 10-8, at No. 6.
Up next, the Pride will return to the Appleton Courts when it hosts the University of St. Joseph's Bluejays at 5 p.m. on Thursday, September 22.
