Women's Tennis Battles Past Suffolk, 5-4, For Sixth-Consecutive Win

Boston, Mass. - September 28, 2016 - The Springfield College women's tennis team strung together its sixth-straight win as it battled past Suffolk, 5-4, in non-conference play on Wednesday night.

It proved to be the first time since 1996 that the Springfield College women's tennis team has won six-consecutive matches. 

Rachel Litchfield (Northbridge, Mass.) provided the late heroics in the win as the final match on at No. 3 singles.  After dropping the opening set 6-1, Litchfield prevailed 6-4 in the second before fighting off match point at 5-4 in the third for the eventual 7-5 win.

Emily Etter (Guilford, Conn.) and Cara Freadman (Richmond, Mass.) earned Springfield's lone doubles point with a 8-1 triumph at the No. 3 spot.

Springfield needed from another great performance by Etter, who eased her way to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles, and a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5 by Freadman.  Additionally, Fiona Stickney (Bayport, N.Y.) cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles for the Pride.

Springfield will next play on Tuesday, October 4 when it returns to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play at Mount Holyoke.  First serve is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
