Springfield, Mass. - October 12, 2016 - The Springfield College women's tennis team outlasted Johnson & Wales, 5-4, in their fall home finale on Wednesday afternoon on Appleton Courts.
With the win, Springfield improved to 7-5, and picked up its third victory in its last five outings by a 5-4 decision.
The Pride earned two doubles points as they cruised at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. Rachel London (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) teammed with Melissa Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) for an 8-2 win at No. 1, while Rebecca Link (Norwalk, Conn.) and Cara Freadman (Richmond, Mass.) eased their way to an 8-0 win at No. 3.
In singles action, Freadman produced a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6, while Emily Etter (Guilford, Conn.) delivered a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the No. 5 spot. Rachel Litchfield (Northbridge, Mass.) clinched the match for the Pride with a hard-fought, 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 4 singles.
Springfield will hit the courts again this weekend when they compete in the NEWITT Championships.
