Springfield, Mass. - October 4, 2018 - The Springfield College women's tennis team earned a 6-3 victory over visiting Gordon on Thursday afternoon on Appleton Courts.
The win boosted Springfield's record to 2-0 on the season as the Pride earned a pair of points in doubles play before picking up four victories in singles play to lock up the non-conference victory.
In doubles action, Melissa Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) and Rachel Ahlmeyer (Morris Plains, N.J.) delivered the first point of the match with an 8-4 win at the top spot for the Pride before Emily Etter (Guilford, Conn.) and Rielly Malz (Glastonbury, Conn.) added an 8-6 win at No. 3.
Heading into singles with a 2-1 advantage, Springfield dropped a bout at No. 6 for the match to be tied, only to then manufacture the next three points of the afternoon to clinch the match. Malz got the spurt started with a 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 before Cara Freadman (Richmond, Mass.) battled to a 7-5, 6-1 in at No. 2. Etter locked up the victory with her 7-6(4), 6-0 win at No. 3, and Ahlmeyer contributed the final point of the night with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 triumph at No. 4.
The Pride is in action next weekend when it competes in the NEWITT's at Smith College.
