Springfield, Mass. - October 18, 2018 - The Springfield College women's tennis team wrapped up the fall portion of its schedule with a decisive 8-1 win over local-foe American International College on Thursday afternoon.
After taking down the Division II opponent, Springfield improved to 3-0 this season under first-year head coach Mike Louis.
In doubles play, Rielly Malz (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Cara Freadman (Richmond, Mass.) registered an 8-3 win at No. 2 to get things started before Amanda Hill (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Hailey Higgins (New Marlborough, Mass.) followed with an 8-1 victory at No. 3. Springfield concluded doubles play by sweeping the three points with an 8-6 win at the top spot by Melissa Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) and Rachel Ahlmeyer (Morris Plains, N.J.).
Malz was the first to complete her singles match after earning a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4 before Ahlmeyer delivered a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3. Juliette Piazza (Portland, Conn.) turned in a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 5, and Freadman posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over her own at No. 2. The Pride won by default at No. 6 singles to wrap up the match.
