Lake Nona, Fla. - March 21, 2019 - The Springfield College women's tennis team ended their trip to Florida on a high note as they breezed to an 8-1 triumph over Wisconsin-Superior on Thursday night at the USTA National Campus.
Springfield is now 6-1 under first-year head coach Michael Louis as the Pride earned three wins in their four matches during this Spring Break.
The match started with singles play and the Pride eased their way to five victories in the six matches to clinch the victory before doubles action got underway. Melissa Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) made quick work of her opponent at the No. 1 spot by virtue of a 6-0, 6-0 win, and Emily Etter (Guilford, Conn.) followed suit with a win at No. 3 by the same scores. Rielly Malz (Glastonbury, Conn.) then added a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4, before Cara Freadman (Richmond, Mass.) turned in a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 2. Hailey Higgins (New Marlborough, Mass.) earned the match-clinching point with a hard-fought 6-3, 1-6, 10-6 win at No. 6.
The Pride cruised to three victories in doubles, with Higgins and Amanda Hill (East Longmeadow, Mass.) producing an 8-0 at No. 3, while Parrish and Juliette Piazza (Portland, Conn.) followed with a 8-4 win at No. 1. The final point of the evening came at No. 2 doubles, with Malz and Freadman prevailing by a 8-7 margin.
Springfield will open up New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Tuesday when it travels to Smith.
