Mike Louis will begin his first season as the head men's and women's tennis coach and assistant professor of physical education at Springfield College in the 2018-19 academic year.
A former student-athlete at the University of Connecticut, Louis brings a wealth of coaching experience to Alden Street, having previously served as both an assistant coach and head coach at UConn, a head coach at the University of Hartford, as well as spending time as a tennis professional at a number tennis clubs throughout Connecticut.
Louis graduated from UConn with a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology/Strength and Conditioning in 2005 and went on to earn his Master's degree in Sport Management in 2007. During his time as a student-athlete with the Huskies, Louis was a four-year letterwinner and served as a team captain, in addition go earning three Big East Conference All-Academic Team recognitions.
As the head men's tennis coach at UConn, Louis led the Huskies from 2013 to 2017 and helped develop a culture that allowed for a pair of student-athletes achieve ITA Division I men's national singles rankings for the first time in program history, while also having the highest team GPA among all UConn athletic programs on two occasions. Prior to his return to UConn, Louis was the head men's and women's tennis coach at the University of Hartford from 2011 to 2013. With the Hawks, Louis had two student-athletes garner America East All-Conference honors and another 18 student-athletes recognized to the America East Conference Honor Roll for their academic excellence.
From 2004-2010, Louis was the assistant men's tennis coach at UConn, where he was charged with team travel and coordinating the Huskies schedule. In addition to his time at UConn and Hartford, over the past 10 years Louis has worked in the private sector at the Hartford Tennis Club, Tumble Brook Country Club, Madison Beach Club, and the Manchester Racquet Club, conducting private and group lessons and coordinating adult and junior programming. Most recently, Louis has overseen all club activities at the Hartford Tennis Club, which boasts over 400 members.
