Utica, N.Y. - January 14, 2017 - Led by impressive performances from senior Carly Markos (Wallkill, N.Y.) and sophomore Courtney Luscier (Pittsfield, Mass.), the Springfield College women's track and field program competed at the Utica College Pioneer Invitational on Saturday.
Markos, a returning national-qualifier for the Pride, posted a first-place finish in the weight throw with a heave of 53 feet, 0.25 inches, while also taking third in the shot put with a throw of 39 feet, 5 inches.
Additionally, in the long jump, sophomore Tiffany Tenney (Orange, Mass.) took first overall in the long jump with a distance of 16 feet, 5.75 inches, while Rachel Kaliff (Enfield, Conn.) placed third with a jump of 15 feet, 4.25 inches. Luscier, a returning All-American in the 60 meter dash, finished with a time of 8.00 seconds, good for second overall.
Starting off the day in the 400 meter run, first-year Kathryn Rowe (Mansfield, Mass.) finished fourth overall, crossing the finish line in 1:03.12, while classmate Katherine Strain (Longmeadow, Mass.) took sixth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 10.59 seconds.
In the 200 meter, Abby Tantorski (North Haven, Conn.) took eighth with a time of 27.84 seconds, while in the 3000 meter run, senior Marie Harrington (Limerick, Maine) took fifth with a time of 11:22.46.
Springfield College will next compete back in the Springfield College Field House on Saturday, January 21 when it hosts Bridgewater State, Worcester State, Wheaton, RIC, Keene State, Westfield State, Trinity, Coast Guard, UMass Dartmouth and Stevens Tech as part of the Maroon and White Classic.
