Markos Recognized as NEWMAC and ECAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week

Boston, Mass. - April 10, 2017 - Springfield College's Carly Markos (Wallkill, N.Y.) of the women's track and field team was recognized for her standout performance this past weekend, as she was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) and Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's Field Athlete of the Week, announce on Monday.

Markos, a senior Special Education major at Springfield College, finished first in the hammer throw at the Smith Pioneer Invitational with a heave of 184 feet, 5 inches (56.22 meters), which surpassed Kelsey Bishop's throw of 170 feet, 7 inches in 2007 to break the Springfield College women's track and field program record. With her throw, Markos also broke the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) record, which was set by Ashley Wheeler of MIT when she threw 174 feet, 3.25 inches.

This upcoming weekend, Markos and Springfield College will travel to New London, Conn. on Friday, April 14 for a meet with the Bears and WPI.
