New London, Conn. - April 14, 2017 - The Springfield College women's track and field team finished second among three teams at Coast Guard on Friday evening as it totaled 129 points as a team. Host Coast Guard edged the field with 131 points, while WPI took third with 124 points.
Carly Markos (Wallkill, N.Y.) registered a winning toss of 52.56 meters in the hammer throw to win the event, and also took second in the shot put (11.45m) and fourth in the discus (33.56m). Courtney Luscier (Pittsfield, Mass.) produced a winning time of 12.20 in the 100 meters, and was second in the 200 with a 26.43, while Macayla LaChance (Peabody, Mass.) won the 800 in 2:28.28.
The Pride's 4x100 relay of Kathryn Rowe (Mansfield, Mass.), Luscier, Katie Evans (South Hadley, Mass.), and Rachel Kaliff (Enfield, Conn.) were victorious with a 50.54, while the 4x400 relay of Abbie McCann (Northborough, Mass.), Kristen Madeia (Berlin, Conn.), LaChance and Rowe were the runner-ups after posting a 4:23.72.
Individually, Rowe was second in in the 400 with 1:01.60, and Emily Giardino (Bellingham, Mass.) placed second in both the 800 (2:28.87) and the 1,500 (5:02.80).
Kaliff was second in the triple jump with a distance of 10.25 meters and Katarina Frazier (Melrose, Mass.) placed second with a 9.66 meters.
In the javelin, Carley Moyher (Killingsworth, Conn.) took runner-up points after posting a distance of 35.95m, while teammate SamLiberty (Pascoag, R.I.) took third with a mark of 34.22m.
Mia Facchini (Chicopee, Mass.) was third in the high jump with a height of 1.53 meters
The Pride will host the Springfield College Classic on April 22.
