Springfield, Mass. - April 22, 2017 - Led by first-place finishes from Carly Markos (Wallkill, N.Y.), Courtney Luscier (Pittsfield, Mass.) and Mia Facchini (Chicopee, Mass.), the Springfield College women's track and field team competed at the Springfield College Classic, hosted on Blake Track on Saturday.
Markos posted a pair of first-place finishes on the afternoon in the shot put and hammer throw, as the senior produced a mark of 39 feet, 8.75 inches to win the shot, before taking the hammer with a distance of 178 feet, 3 inches.
Luscier continued her strong outdoor season, as the junior recorded a winning time and personal-best time of 25.97 seconds in the 200 meter dash, while she also took second in the 100 meter dash with a finishing time of 12.29 seconds. Facchini led Springfield College in the field events, as she won the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 3.75 inches.
Following Luscier in the 100 meter dash was Kathryn Rowe (Mansfield, Mass.), who took fourth with a time of 12.93 seconds, as the freshman also took fifth in the 200 with a 26.86. Hannah Wunderlich (Methuen, Mass.) put up a great time of 18:42.43 in the 5000 meter run, as she was followed by Emily Giardino (Bellingham, Mass.), who crossed in 19:13.53. Giardino also took eighth in the 1500, as she posted a time of 5:02.63.
The Pride's 4x100 relay of Rowe, Luscier, Katie Evans (South Hadley, Mass.) and Rachel Kaliff (Enfield, Conn.) recorded a time of 50.17 seconds, good for second, while Kaliff also took fifth in the long jump with a distance of 16 feet, 1 inch, before taking second in the triple jump with a mark of 33 feet, 8 inches.
Up next, Springfield College will compete in the NEWMAC Championships, hosted at MIT on Saturday, April 29.
