Springfield, Mass. - December 2, 2017 - The Springfield College women's track and field team began its indoor season with the Springfield College Season Opener, hosted in the Field House on Saturday. The four-team meet featured the Pride, Williams College, Westfield State and Stevens.
Beginning the day in the 60 meter dash, Courtney Luscier (Pittsfield, Mass.) took second overall with a time of 7.97 seconds, before the senior notched a time of 46.44 in the 300 meter dash, good for sixth overall. Also in the 300 meter dash, Emily Frazier (Bridgewater, Mass.) took eighth with a time of 48.23 seconds. Sophomore Katie Rowe (Mansfield, Mass.) took third in the 500 meter run with a time of 1:24.20, clocking in just before classmate Katie Evans (Holyoke, Mass.), who crossed the finish line in 1:28.97, good for fourth.
Juniors Kristen Madeia (Berlin, Conn.) and Macayla LaChance (Peabody, Mass.) took first and second in the 800, as Madeia posted a time of 2:23.26, finishing just ahead of Lachance, who registered a time of 2:34.79. Abigail Murdock (Westerly, R.I.) took second in the mile with a time of 5:46.77, while in the 3000 meter run, Hannah Wunderlich (Methuen, Mass.) and Laura Volan (Scarborough, Maine) finished second and third, respectively, as Wunderlich notched a time of 11:23.72 and was followed by Volan's 11:30.52.
Sophomore Katherine Strain (Longmeadow, Mass.) took second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.90, while in the 4x400 relay, the team of Evans, Ashley Consolini (Southwick, Mass.), Rowe and Abigail Tantorski (North Haven, Conn.) took third with a combined time of 4:22.17.
Strain took third in the high jump, as she cleared 5 feet, 2.5 inches, while in the long jump, Jaime Jax (Brooklyn, Conn.) finished fifth, jumping 16 feet, 8.5 inches. Alexandra Pratt (Pawcatuck, Conn.) took fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 32 feet, 11.75 inches, while Mikaela LoPriore (Niantic, Conn.) posted a runner-up finish in the shot put with a heave of 35 feet, 2.5 inches, and in the weight throw, after registering a distance of 40 feet, 11 inches.
Next, Springfield College will compete at the Tufts Invitational in Medford, Mass. on Saturday, January 13 at 11 a.m.
