Middletown, Conn. - February 2, 2019 - The Springfield College women's track and field team had four student-athletes win three events at the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday afternoon, a non-scoring meet in Middletown, Conn.
Sophomore Emily LaPlante (Troy, N.Y.) and junior Katherine Strain (Longmeadow, Mass.) tied for the win in the 60 meter hurdles with identical times of 9.64 seconds, while Abigail Murdock (Westerly, R.I.) won the 1000 meter race with a time of 3:15.96. In the field events, Mikaela LoPriore (Niantic, Conn.) won the shot put with a heave of 11.75 meters, or 38 feet, 6.75 inches
In the long jump, LaPlante took fourth overall, clearing 4.78 meters, or 15 feet, 8.25 inches, while in the high jump, Strain was third with a height of 1.55 meters, or 5 feet, 1 inches. LaPlante also tied for fourth in the high jump, clearing 1.50 meters, or 4 feet, 11 inches. In the pole vault, Emma Radler (North Ferrisburgh, Vt.) was third, clearing a height of 2.90 meters, or 9 feet, 6.25 inches. LoPriore would go on to take fourth in the weight throw with a heave of 12.83 meters, or 42 feet, 1.25 inches.
Strain was the top finisher in the 60 meter hurdles prelims, with a time of 9.76 seconds, before LaPlante and the junior tied for first in the finals, both producing a time of 9.64 seconds. Emory Fairchild (New Milford, Conn.) was the Pride's top finisher in the one mile race, producing a time of 5:36.35, while in the 600 meter run, Olivia Turk (Danbury, Conn.) turned in a time of 1:46.54 to take fourth overall.
Senior Abby Tantorski (North Haven, Conn.) took fourth overall in the 60 meter dash finals with a time of 8.39 seconds, finishing just ahead of teammate Katie Evans (Holyoke, Mass.), who turned in a time of 8.49 seconds in the event. Tantorski also placed second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.21 seconds. Abigail Murdock (Westerly, R.I.) won the 1000 meter run with a time of 3:15.96, while in the women's 3k, Aly Coyle (Pembroke, Mass.) was third with a time of 11:18.41.
Up next, Springfield College will send student-athletes to the Dave Hemery Valentine's Invitational at Boston University and the FastTrack National Invitational in Staten Island, N.Y. on Friday, February 8.
