Springfield, Mass. - February 8, 2019 - The women's track and field program was split among two meets on Friday afternoon, as the team competed at Boston University's David Hemery Valentine's Invitational and the Fasttrack National Invitational, hosted at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.
At Boston University, Springfield College started out on the 800 meter run, as Kristen Madeia (Berlin, Conn.) ran a season-best 2:16.22 to bump herself up to No. 15 in all of Division III in the event, as she was followed by Abigail Murdock (Westerly, R.I.), who turned in a time of 2:24.43. Abby Tantorski (North Haven, Conn.) was 33rd overall in the 60 meter dash prelims with a time of 8.32 seconds, while in the 400 meter dash, Tiffany Tenney (Orange, Mass.) continued to impress in the late-season push, dropping her time to a personal-best 58.73.
Tantorski would record a time of 26.22 seconds in the 200 meter dash, before Aly Coyle (Pembroke, Mass.) and Emory Fairchild (New Milford, Conn.) ran in the mile, with Coyle producing a 5:36.24, with Fairchild right behind at 5:39.51.
On Saturday morning, the distance medley relay team of Coyle, Tenney, Murdock and Madeia combined to produce a time of 12:49.24.
At the FastTrack National Invitational, sophomore Deanna Carlone (Canostota, N.Y.) opened the day with a personal-best time of 11:55.85 in the women's 3k, before Olivia Turk (Danbury, Conn.) and Nicole Meore (Nanuet, N.Y.) both competed in the 400 meter dash, with Turk turning in a time of 1:03.94, followed by Meore's 1:04.72.
Freshman Heather Fontaine (Brimfield, Mass.) was the Pride's leader in the mile with a time 5:43.13, while in the 200 meter dash, Katie Evans (Holyoke, Mass.) turned in a time 27.23 in the 200 meter dash. Katherine Strain (Longmeadow, Mass.) produced a time of 9.63 seconds in the 60 meter hurdle prelims, while Evans notched a 8.44-second time in the 60 meter dash prelims, just ahead of Sydney Fackrell (Hamburg, N.J.), who produced a time of 8.46 seconds.
In the field events, Emily LaPlante (Troy, N.Y.) was the leader in the long jump with a mark of 4.83 meters, while in the shot put Emily Lacasee (West Hartford, Conn.) had the furthest throw with a heave 10.83 meters. Marcie LaRiccia (Lebanon, Maine) was the Pride's top performer in the weight throw with a mark of 11.81 meters. Caroline Hitchcock (Agawam, Mass.) led a group of high jumpers with an eighth-place finish, clearing 1.60 meters, while Mia Facchini (Chicopee, Mass.) was 15th, also clearing 1.60 meters.
The Pride will next compete on Saturday, February 16 when it hosts the Triangle Classic in the Springfield College Field House at 10:30 a.m.
