Women's Track and Field Produces Runner-Up Finish at American International College Invitational

Springfield, Mass. - April 6, 2019 - Competing in the 9th Annual Yellow Jacket Invitational on the campus of American International College, the Springfield College women's track and field team accumulated 154 points en route to a second-place finish on Saturday, as it only trailed Division-II Assumpiton College.

Springfield College also defeated four other Division II schools including Southern Connecticut, American International, Saint Rose and Post.

Junior Abby Tantorski (North Haven, Conn.) was third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.85 seconds, while Sydney Fackrell (Hamburg, N.J.) was sixth in the event, crossing in 13.14 seconds. Tiffany Tenney (Orange, Mass.) was second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.10, as Tantorski followed with a 26.14, while both qualified for Division III New England's in the event.

Tenney would go on to take second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.38 seconds, qualifying for Division III New England's once again, before Kristen Madeia (Berlin, Conn.) won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:21.37. Hannah Wunderlich (Methuen, Mass.) was fifth in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:14.62, while in the women's 5k, Emory Fairchild (New Milford, Conn.) was third with a time of 19:31.24. 

Moving to the 100 meter hurdles, Katherine Strain (Longmeadow, Mass.) was fifth with a time of 16.01 seconds, qualifying for Division III New England's, as she was joined in qualification from Elizabeth Herlihy (Shelton, Conn.), who clocked in at 16.53 seconds. The women's 4x100 relay team of Tantorski, Katie Evans (Holyoke, Mass.), Emma Donohue (East Hampton, Conn.) and Fackrell posted a time of 50.67 seconds to take second overall.

In the field events, Caroline Hitchcock (Agawam, Mass.), Mia Facchini (Chicopee, Mass.), Taylor Nogiec (Berlin, Conn.) and Strain all qualified for Division III New England's in the high jump, as Hitchcock won the event, clearing 1.60 meters. Facchini, Nogiec and Strain all cleared 1.55 meters on the day. Mikaela LoPriore (Niantic, Conn.) qualified for Division III New England's in the shot put with a heave of 12.13 meters, as Emily Lacasse (West Hartford, Conn.) also qualified in the event with a toss of 11.35 meters.

Lacasse would also qualify for Division III New England's in the discus with a heave of 36.07 meters, as she was joined in qualification by LoPriore and Christi Johnson (Bozrah, Conn.), who finished fifth and sixth in the event. LoPriore would qualify for Division III New England's in her third event of the day, taking fourth in the hammer with a heave of 41.45 meters, while in the javelin, Sam Liberty (Pascoag, R.I.), who took fifth with a toss of 35.48 meters, and Carley Moyher (Killingworth, Conn.), who was sixth with an identical mark of 35.48 meters, also both qualified for Division III New England's.

Springfield College will now gear up for the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College, which will begin on Friday, April 12 in New London, Conn.
