Springfield, Mass. - April 20, 2019 - The Springfield College women's track and field team hosted its lone regular-season home meet of the season on Saturday afternoon, which consisted of eight other schools.
Springfield College had four event winners on the day, including Abby Tantorski (North Haven, Conn.) in the 100 meter dash, Chloe Dewhurst (Lancaster, Mass.) in the high jump, Mikaela LoPriore (Niantic, Conn.) in the shot put and Sam Liberty (Pascoag, R.I.) in the javelin.
Opening the day, the 4x100 meter relay team of Tantorski, Katie Evans (Holyoke, Mass.), Emma Donohue (East Hampton, Conn.) and Sydney Fackrell (Hamburg, N.J.) took second overall with a combined time of 49.46 seconds, while Heather Fontaine (Brimfield, Mass.) was fifth in the women's 3k with a time of 11:20.38, and was followed by Hannah Wunderlich (Methuen, Mass.), who clocked in at 11:29.84.
Sophomore Abigail Murdock (Westerly, R.I.) was seventh in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:14.92, while in the 100 meter hurdles, Elizabeth Herlihy (Shelton, Conn.) and Katherine Strain (Longmeadow, Mass.) tied for second with matching time's of 16.01 seconds. Tiffany Tenney (Orange, Mass.) was second in the 400 meter run with a time of 58.82 seconds, while Tantorski won the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.02 seconds, just ahead of Fackrell, who took second with a time of 13.13 seconds, and Evans, who crossed in 13.41 seconds.
Racing in the 200 meter dash, Tenney produced a time of 27.19 seconds to just edge Tantorski's time of 27.39 seconds, while Fackrell followed, crossing in 27.69 seconds.
In the field events, Alexandra Pratt (Pawcatuck, Conn.) was third in the triple jump with a mark of 10.38 meters, while in the pole vault, Emma Radler (North Ferrisburgh, Vt.) was third as well, clearing 2.90 meters. LoPriore won the shot put with a heave of 11.98 meters, which was followed by Emily Lacasse (West Hartford, Conn.), who took second with a mark of 11.74 meters, and Christi Johnson (Bozrah, Conn.), who was fourth with a distance of 11.23 meters. Lacasse was the Pride's top finisher in the discus with a heave of 36.89 meters.
Liberty won the javelin with a mark of 38.36 meters, just ahead of Carley Moyher (Killingworth, Conn.), who was second with a toss of 37.24 meters. Dewhurst won the high jump, clearing 1.65 meters, just ahead of Caroline Hitchcock (Agawam, Mass.), who was second with a mark of 1.60 meters.
Racing at the Larry Ellis Invitational, hosted at Princeton University, Kristen Madeia (Berlin, Conn.) raced in the 800 meter race and turned in a time of 2:18.53.
Up next, Springfield College will prepare for the 2019 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships, which will be hosted at Blake Track on Saturday, April 27 beginning at 10:30 a.m.
