Women's Volleyball Receiving Votes In AVCA Division III Preseason Poll

Lexington, Ky. – August 25, 2016 – A year removed from one of the most successful seasons program history, the Springfield College women's volleyball team enters the 2016 campaign receiving votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Coaches Top 25 Preseason Poll.  The Pride is one of only four programs from New England to receive votes in the national poll.

Head coach Moira Long powered Springfield to the 2015 NCAA Division III Championship Sweet 16 for the third time in the last six years as the Pride concluded the season with a 31-4 record, tying the fifth-best win total in program history.  It marked the sixth-straight year that Springfield College played in the national tournament.

Springfield returns several starters from last year's squad, with reigning NEWMAC Women's Volleyball Athlete of the Year and AVCA First Team All-America selection Lauren Holt (Granby, Conn.) leading the way. Springfield will also return a pair of AVCA Honorable Mention All-America honorees in senior Marnae Mawdsley (Bolton, Conn.) and junior Kayleigh Helgesen (Oceanside, Calif.).

The Pride kick off the season on Friday, September 2 when it hosts the Springfield College Invitational. In a two-day span, Springfield will square off against RIT, Gordon, Framingham State, and Westfield State.
