Boston, Mass. - September 6, 2016 - Springfield College senior Lauren Holt (Granby, Conn.) was selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Volleyball Defensive Athlete of the Week.
The Athletic Training major was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Springfield College Invitational as she totaled 42 kills at a .461 clip to go along with 24 blocks in the four matches. Additionally, she became the program's all-time career leader in total blocks when she upped her total to 471, passing the previous record of 469 which was held by Brielle Boedart, who played from 1990-93.
The reigning NEWMAC Women's Volleyball Athlete of the Year opened the weekend with a 13-kill, seven-block, three-ace performance in a four-set win over RIT before she produced 10 kills on 16 errorless attempts and six blocks in a sweep of Gordon. Going up against 2015 NCAA participant Framingham State on Saturday, Holt totaled nine kills and eight blocks before wrapping up her day with 10 kills and three blocks against Westfield State.
Springfield will head out of region this weekend when it travels to Colorado to play a pair of nationally ranked Colorado College and Texas-Dallas, as well as Whitman and Occidental.
