Boston, Mass. - October 17, 2016 - Springfield College's Lauren Holt (Granby, Conn.) was recognzied as both the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Corvias Division III New England Women's Volleyball Defensive Athlete of the Week.
After winning NEWMAC Women's Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week last week, Holt was named the NEWMAC Women's Volleyball Defensive Athlete of the Week today for the second time this season. This marks Holt's first regional honor of the season.
Last week, Holt produced 40 blocks, averaging 2.0 per set, as she increased her national average of 1.78 blocks per set. Additionally, she now has 141 blocks on the year, which is 28 more than anyone else at the NCAA Division III level. She also totaled 54 kills at a .357 clip this week, totaling at least eight kills in every match.
After an 11-kill, three-block performance in a NEWMAC sweep of Mount Holyoke, Holt was outstanding versus Haverford with 11 blocks and 13 kills. In a win over Stevens, who was receiving votes in this week's AVCA national poll, Holt totaled 14 kills and eight blocks before turning in nine blocks and eight kills against both Farleigh Dickinson and Montclair State on Sunday. Holt led a Springfield unit that held its opponents to a .149 combined hitting percentage, with no team hitting higher than .200 the entire week.
