Women's Volleyball Bests Catholic and Moravian At Osprey Classic For Long's 500th Career Win

Galloway Township, N.J. - September 22, 2018 - The Springfield College women's volleyball team bested both Catholic and Moravian in the second day of the Osprey Classic hosted by Stockton University on Saturday.  

Springfield, which entered the weekend receiving votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III National Poll, bounced back after dropping two matches on Friday night to improve to 12-2.  For her efforts throughout the weekend, Springfield's Jen Donnelly (Exeter, R.I.) was named to the All-Tournament Team.

With the two wins, head coach Moira Long became the 34th active Division III women's volleyball coach to reach the 500th career win plateau, doing so in 22 years with a winning percentage of .688.  In her eight seasons at Springfield, Long has already racked up 194 wins.

The Pride started the day with a 25-13, 25-13, 25-19 win over Catholic as Springfield hit a .296 clip as a team. Donnelly totaled 15 digs and 13 kills while hitting .379 and Sara Labadorf (Huntersville, N.C.) totaled 35 assists.  Ashley Tanner (Manorville, N.Y.) was credited with a career-best 17 digs and Katie vonKampen (South Setauket, N.Y.) delivered six blocks as the Pride limited Catholic to a .048 hitting percentage.

In their second match of the day, Springfield prevailed past Moravian by the set scores of 25-11, 21-25, 25-15, 25-13.  Hayley Kmetz (Ardsley, N.Y.) led all players with 15 kills, which came at a .389 clip, while Donnelly chipped in 14 kills and 13 digs.  Labadorf had 43 assists and 15 digs in leading Springfield to a .254 hitting percentage and vonKampen registered nine kills and five blocks in the middle.

Springfield will play again on Tuesday night when it returns to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play at Coast Guard for a 7 pm contest.
