Women's Cross Country Races To Eighth-Place Finish at NEWMAC Championships

Northampton, Mass. - October 29, 2016 - The Springfield College women's cross country team raced at the 2016 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on Saturday afternoon.

Springfield finished 8th as a team on the 5k course as it totaled 210 team points.  MIT won the competition as it placed the top five runners for a total of 15 points, followed by Wellesley (69), Coast Guard (89), Smith (139), WPI (141), Wheaton (150), Clark (167), Springfield, Mount Holyoke (272), Emerson (286), and Babson (290).

Senior Marie Harrington (Limerick, Maine) had a strong showing for Springfield and crossed the finish line first for the Pride with a time of 20:35 to place 27th overall.  First-year Laura Volan (Scarborough, Maine) clocked in at 21:04 in her first NEWMAC Championship experience to take 41st, while Chelsea Dubin (Holliston, Mass.) ran a time of 21:13 for 45th.

Right behind Dubin was Emily Giardino (Bellingham, Mass.), whose time of 21:16 was goodfor47th,  and Rachael Seymour (Red Hook, N.Y.) crossed in 21:18 for 50th.

Springfield will now prepare to compete on Saturday, November 12th at the NCAA Division III Regional Championships.
