Women's Cross Country Races To Eighth-Place Finish At UMass Dartmouth

North Dartmouth, Mass. - September 16, 2017 - In their second race of the season, the Springfield College women's cross country team finished eighth among the 40 teams competing in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational. The Pride's eighth-place finish marked Springfield College's highest finish in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational since 2008 when it took 5th overall.

With nearly 300 runners in the varsity 5k race, Springfield's Kristen Madeia (Berlin, Conn.) finished ninth overall as she clocked in at a personal-best time of 18:49 and averaged a 6:04 mile. Also, competing for the first time in her collegiate career, Rachel Wentnick (Metuchen, N.J.) was the Pride's next fastest runner in 19:50, while Emily Giardino (Bellingham, Mass.) closely followed in 20:05.

Senior Hannah Wunderlich (Methuen, Mass.) crossed the finsh line in 20:13 and and Macayla LaChance (Peabody, Mass.) totaled a time of 20:27 for the Pride.

Springfield will next race at the Purple Valley Classic in Williamstown, Mass. on Saturday, September 23.
