Bethlehem, Pa. - September 29, 2017 - Competing in the 44th annual Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University, the Springfield College women's cross country team placed sixth overall on Friday afternoon at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course. The Paul Short Run is the largest intercollegiate cross country meet in the nation with approximately 6,000 athletes from nearly 450 colleges and high schools slated to compete.
On the 6k course, the Pride finished sixth among 32 teams, and averaged an impressive time of 23:52.
Standout junior Kristen Madeia (Berlin, Conn.) was impressive once again as she clocked in at a time of 23:04, finishing 13th overall out of 270 student-athletes. Madeia was closely followed by Hannah Wunderlich (Methuen, Mass.), who crossed in 23:55. The Pride's next finisher was Laura Volan (Scarborough, Maine), who churned out her best performance of the 2017 season as she recorded a time of 23:57, while freshman Rachel Wentnick (Metuchen, N.J.) raced to a time of 24:02. Rounding out the top five for the Pride was Abigail Murdock (Westerly, R.I.), who posted a time of 24:19.
Up next, Springfield College will race in the Connecticut College Invitational, hosted in New London, Conn. on Saturday, October 14.
