New London, Conn. - October 14, 2017 - The Springfield College women's cross country team took 11th overall at the Connecticut College Invitational, hosted at Harkness Memorial State Park on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
The Pride's 11th-place finish marked its best team finish since 2014, as Springfield College accumulated 333 points on the afternoon.
The maroon and white was led once again by Kristen Madeia (Berlin, Conn.), who finished 29th out of 273 runners with a time of 23:36.2, as she was also the second New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) competitor to cross the finish line.
Behind Kristen was Hannah Wunderlich (Methuen, Mass.), who crossed in 24:31.1, while Rachel Wentnick (Metuchen, N.J.) was the Pride's third-place finisher with a time of 24:56.3. Rounding out the top five was Laura Volan (Scarborough, Maine), who notched a time of 24:57.6, while she was closely followed by Abigail Murdock (Westerly, R.I.), who crossed in 25:26.3.
Springfield College will spend the next two weeks preparing for the NEWMAC Championships, hosted at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. on Sunday, October 29.
