Leominster, Mass. - September 1, 2018 - The Springfield College women's cross country team took second overall as a team at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invite on Saturday afternoon, as the Pride was led by senior Kristen Madeia (Berlin, Conn.) and Rachel Wentnick (Metuchen, N.J.), who finished fifth and sixth on the 5k course, respectively.
Worcester State was first overall with 41 points, as the Lancers just edged the Pride, which produced 42 points during the race. Mount Holyoke (79), UMass Dartmouth (127) and Eastern Connecticut (128) rounded out the top five.
Madeia was the Pride's top finisher, as she clocked in at 19:54 and averaged a 6:24 mile, while Wentnick crossed just behind in a time of 20:09. Wentnick posted an average mile time of 6:29. Next for Springfield College, Abby Murdock (Westerly, R.I.) posted a time of 20:29 and was the Pride's third-best runner of the day, while Laura Volan (Scarborough, Maine) was 10th overall in the race with a time of 20:41 and Aly Coyle (Pembroke, Mass.) took 12th with a time of 20:45.
The Pride will resume action on Saturday, September 8 when it competes in the Smith College Invitational in Northampton, Mass.
