Dartmouth, Mass. - September 15, 2018 - The Springfield College women's cross country team competed at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday afternoon, and finished eighth overall among 45 teams on the 5k course. Saturday's eighth-place finish marked the third top-10 finish for the Pride at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational in the last four years.
Springfield College totaled 350 points as it was the fifth among Division III schools and third among teams that compete in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).
The Pride was led by Kristen Madeia (Berlin, Conn.), who took 13th overall with a time of 19:00, while she was closely followed by Emory Fairchild (New Milford, Conn.), who clocked in at 20:05. Next for Springfield College was Abby Murdock (Westerly, R.I.), who crossed in 20:13, just ahead of Rachel Wentnick (Metuchen, N.J.), who posted a mark of 20:19. Rounding out the top five for Springfield College was Aly Coyle (Pembroke, Mass.), who turned in a time of 20:30.
In the open race, Springfield College had a pair of student-athletes record impressive times, as Lauren Duggan (Mansfield, Mass.) and Nicole Sedler (Boxborough, Mass.) took third and fourth respectively, as Duggan notched a time of 20:07, followed by Sedler's 20:09.
Springfield College will now gear up for the Paul Short Run, which will be hosted at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. on Saturday, September 29.
