Waterford, Conn. - October 13, 2018 - Led by standout senior Kristen Madeia (Berlin, Conn.) the Springfield College women's cross country team finished 17th overall at the Connecticut College Invitational, hosted at the Harkness Memorial State Park on Saturday.
The Pride, which finished with 497 points in the race, competed for the final time before the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships, which will be hosted at Smith College on Sunday, October 27. Springfield College was third among teams from the conference competing on Saturday.
Madeia was the Pride's top finisher with a time of 23:48.1, while she was followed by Rachel Wentnick (Metuchen, N.J.), who clocked in at 24:07.8. Abby Murdock (Westerly, R.I.) was the next student-athlete from Springfield College to complete the 6k course, as she posted a time of 24:23.6, finishing just ahead of Laura Volan (Scarborough, Maine), who notched a time of 24:31.5.
Rounding out the Pride's top five was Hannah Wunderlich (Methuen, Mass.), who finished the course in 24:32.7, while Olivia Turk (Danbury, Conn.) was next with a time of 25:03.3. First-year Heather Fontaine (Brimfield, Mass.) clocked in at 25:22.3, while Deanna Carlone (Canastota, N.Y.) finished with a time of 25:27.8.
