Women's Cross Country Races at NEWMAC Championships

Northampton, Mass. - October 27, 2018 - The Springfield College women's cross country team took ninth overall at the NEWMAC Championship, which was hosted at Smith College on Saturday afternoon. 

MIT finished first overall with 20 points, ahead of WPI (71), Coast Guard (85), Wellesley (105) and Smith (133). Springfield College totaled 234 points on the afternoon.

Sophomore Rachel Wentnick (Metuchen, N.J.) was the Pride's top finisher, as she clocked in at 20:59, just ahead of Abigail Murdock (Westerly, R.I.), who notched a time of 21:12. Lauren Duggan (Mansfield, Mass.) was third overall on Springfield College with a time of 21:29, as Laura Volan (Scarborough, Maine) was next with a mark of 21:30. Rounding out the top five for the maroon and white was Kristen Madeia (Berlin, Conn.), who crosed in 21:31 on the 5k course.

Also competing for Springfield College was Aly Coyle (Pembroke, Mass.), who also turned in a time of 21:31, before Heather Fontaine (Brimfield, Mass.), who crossed in 21:42. 

Springfield College will compete at the 2018 NCAA Division III Regional Championships on November 10 at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.
