Joey Manginelli (Dumont, N.J.) of the wrestling team has been selected as the Springfield College Athletics Maroon Club Male Student-Athlete of the Week.
Manginelli had an impressive start to his collegiate career as he finished as the runner up in the 125 pound weight class at the Ithaca Invitational over the weekend. The Business Management major opened up his first-year campaign with a 21-2 technical fall over Gabriel Leo-Esparolini (Johnson & Wales) before edging Baldwin Wallace's Jack Stanley, 7-6, on Friday. The first-year then started off his Saturday by knocking off the top-ranked wrestler in the region and top seed in the tournament, Diego Santiago from New England College, 2-1 by a tiebreaker to reach the semifinals. In the semis, Manginelli pinned Christopher Caban from JWU in 3:44 before falling into the title bout to Ithaca's Logan Ninos by a 9-5 decision.
