Springfield, Mass. - October 6, 2018 - With heavy hearts, Springfield College mourns the passing of Matthew Pepe, an honorary teammate of the wrestling program who was partnered with the Pride via Team IMPACT. Matthew, a 12-year-old boy from Palmer, Mass., had spent time with Springfield College wrestling team amidst his long and courageous battle.
"We did our best to provide Matthew with a great experience while he was with us," reflected head wrestling coach Jason Holder. "Having a Team IMPACT teammate taught us so much. He truly gave us perspective about what is important, to be thankful for the opportunities that we have in life, and what it means to love and sacrifice for those that we love. He will forever be our teammate and we will be there to support Matthew's family through this difficult time."
Matthew became a part of the Springfield College family in the spring of 2018 via Team IMPACT, and was officially drafted on October 2. A national non-profit organization, Team IMPACT connects children facing serious and chronic illnesses with local college athletic teams, forming life-long bonds and life-changing outcomes.
