John Y. Squires '35

-New England Champion in backstroke &swam in 1935 NCAA Championships

-Member of the varsity soccer and track & field teams

-Coached soccer, swimming and tennis at the University of Connecticut

-In 1948 his UConn soccer squad went 11-0 and was crowned National Champion

-Soccer teams of 1948, 1958 & 1960 captured the New England Championships

-Soccer teams tallied 148 victories, including a 17 game win streak

-President of National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) 1960

-Chairman and member of the NCAA Soccer Rules Committee

-Chairman and tourney director for the first NCAA Soccer Championship 1959

-Known as the "Father of NCAA Championship Soccer"

-Received the NSCAA Honor Award 1973

-New England Intercollegiate League Honor Award 1976

-Inducted into the NSCAA Hall of Fame 1994

-Twice was President of the New England Intercollegiate Swimming Association

-Coached UConn tennis squad to a Yankee Conference Tennis Championship
