Springfield, Mass. - October 5, 2018 -The Springfield College field hockey team was bested by Smith College, 5-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Friday evening at Stagg Field.
With the win, Smith improves to 7-4 on the season including 3-1 in conference play while the Pride fall to 7-4 and 2-2 in the conference.
The Pioneers struck for the game's first goal at the 19:37 mark when Bayleigh Bogan knocked home a rebounded shot. Springfield netminder Emmalie Drake (Pittsford, N.Y.) kept the first half close with strong play in the cage, only to have Smith break through with two more scores at the 31:30 and 34:59 marks to make it 3-0 going into the half. Anna Ballou and Sammie Pavlov each registered strikes for the visitors on goals that were both assisted by Neva Richardson.
Smith would continue to add to their lead when Ballou opened up the second half scoring with her second goal of the contest at 49:06, and Bryn Murray tucked in the game's final goal with 25 seconds remaining. Drake tallied seven saves in net as Springfield was outshot 19-5 on the night.
Springfield will head to Trinity College to take on the Bandams in non-conference action on Tuesday, October 9, at 6:00 pm.
