Boston, Mass. - January 10, 2017 -Springfield College first-year Jake Ross (Northampton, Mass.) was chosen as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Basketball Defensive Athlete of the Week as well as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) New England Men's Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week.
This is the fifth NEWMAC honor of the year for Ross, and the second-consecutive week that Ross was chosen as the top player and rookie in New England by the ECAC.
In the first two NEWMAC games of his collegiate career, Ross led Springfield to a road win at WPI and nearly knocked off top-ranked Babson. The first-year averaged 29.5 points per game, while shooting 43.% (21-for-48) from the field to go along with 9.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.0 steals per game.
At WPI, Ross tied totaled 29 points, seven rebounds, five steals, and four assists before turning turning in his NEWMAC-leading eighth double double of the season with a career-best 30 points and 11 boards and three assists versus Babson.
