Springfield, Mass. - February 11, 2019 - After leading the Springfield College men's basketball team to a pair of critical conference wins last week, Jake Ross (Northampton, Mass.) was selected as both the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Baketball Offensive and Defensive Athlete of the Week.
The Recreation Management major averaged 21.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game and added three steals and a pair of blocks. In the Pride's 26-point win over Wheaton on Wednesday, Ross facilitated Springfield's offense with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists as he connected on his 7-of-9 field goal attempts in 30 minutes of action. On Saturday, Ross powered Springfield over MIT, who was ranked No. 6 in the nation and No. 1 in the region, as he delivered 25 points, 10 boards, four assists, three steals, and two blocks while shooting 8-of-16 from the field. The junior recorded two blocks in the final 1:07 of regulation, including producing a block and pulling down the ensuing rebound with 15 seconds to play to help seal the win.
Ross and Springfield will play their final regular-season home game on Wednesday versus WPI at 7 pm.
