Springfield, Mass. - February 19, 2019 - After another sensational week for the Springfield College men's basketball program, Jake Ross (Northampton, Mass.) was selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Basketball Co-Offensive Athlete of the Week.
Ross, who shared this week's honor with MIT's Tim Roberts, has been honored three times earlier this season as the top offensive player of the week, while also previously earning the top defensive player of the week on a pair of occasions.
The Recreational Management major was terrific in leading Springfield to wins over WPI and Babson last week in securing a spot in the conference tournament. In two conference games, Ross averaged 28 points and 12 rebounds per outing to go along with nine assists, four steal, and two blocks while playing all but three minutes in the two games combined as the Pride has now won its last four games. In the win over WPI, Ross went off for 30 points, 15 boards, and seven assists, and took over the game late, scoring 11-straight points and grabbing all of the Pride's rebounds in the final 4:31 to lift the Pride to a win. On Saturday, the junior totaled 26 points, including 19 in the decisive second half, to go along with nine boards to help the Pride earn their first win at Babson since 2014.
Springfield will travel to Emerson for the NEWMAC Championship Semifinals, which will take place on Thursday night at 7 pm.
