Springfield, Mass. - November 26, 2019 - Off to its best start since 2011, the Springfield College men's basketball team is receiving votes in the latest D3hoops.com Men's Basketball Top 25 Poll.
A total of 45 teams from across the nation are receiving votes this week and Springfield is one of eight from New England to be mentioned. In fact, Springfield joins WPI and Babson as three programs from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference to appear in the poll.
Springfield is off to a 5-0 start to kick off the 2019-20 campaign and the Pride is one of only 43 teams among the 416 Division III basketball programs across the country to have an unblemished record. After opening the year with a 90-80 win over Western New England, Springfield rallied for a 106-101 overtime win against Keene State. The Pride then toppled Endicott, 92-82, and Emmanuel, 87-83, before cruising past Becker, 90-64.
As a team, the Pride rank 13th in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.64), while also ranking 18th in three-point field goal percentage (43.0), 21st in scoring offense (93.0), 22nd in turnovers per game (11.0), 31st in personal fouls per game (14.4), 32nd in three-point field goals per game (11.0), and 33rd in field goal percentage (50.3). Individually, Jake Ross (Northampton, Mass.) currently leads all of Division III in scoring (34.2) and ranks fourth in total steals (17), while classmate Heath Post (Cheshire, Conn.) is 21st nationally in rebounds per game (11.6). The duo have also each recorded four double doubles this season, which ranks fifth best in the nation, and makes Springfield College the only men's basketball program in the country to have two student-athletes with at least four double doubles this season.
Springfield will return to the hardwood on December 4 when it hosts Trinity at 7:30 pm.
