Cranston, R.I. - April 13, 2019 - The Springfield College golf team continued its strong play this spring season as it opened the Johnson & Wales Wildcat Spring Invitational posting the fifth-best team score on Saturday at Cranston Country Club.
16 teams from throughout the region opened up play on Saturday, and the Pride turned in a score of 310. Amherst leads the field with a 297, while host JWU and Providence are tied fo second with a 301, and Husson sits just in front of Springfield with a first-round score of 307
Mike Strong (Newington, Conn.) had an tremendous opening round and is currently tied for fifth among the 103 golfers after firing a 74. Teammate Jake Raichle (Bethlehem, N.H.) followed with a 78, while the duo of Corey Roya (Manchester, Conn.) and Doug Shane (Hamden, Conn.) each recorded a 79. Matt Gazaille (Palmer, Mass.) added an 81 for Springfield.
Springfield will finish the two-day tournament on Sunday.
