Men's Gymnastics Falls To Air Force In Home Opener

Springfield, Mass. - January 28, 2018 - Competing for the first time this season in Blake Arena, the Springfield College men's gymnastics team was edged by Air Force by a score of 397.100 to 387.200.  Since opening the season three weeks ago, Springfield has improved their team score by nearly 20 points.

Of Springfield's six rotations, the Pride's top showing came on the vault as the hosts put together a score of 67.800.

Springfield had the only three gymnasts competing in the all-around in the dual as Joshua Dieker (Oveida, Fla.), Chris Graff (Old Bridge, N.J.) and Stephen Lewis (Baltimore, Md.) each made an impact on all six events in the showdown.   Graff was the top scorer with a 77.800, followed by Lewis (76.150) and Dieker (75.500).

 The Pride opened up the afternoon on the floor exercise and were paced by the efforts of Matthew Koy (Parlin, N.J.), who totaled a 13.650.  Graff added a 13.600, while Lewis added a 13.550.  Springfield then moved on to the pommel horse, where Graff shined with a 13.250,  Nick Cramer (Lincoln, Neb.) delivered a 12.550, and Jannik Haas (San Jose, Calif.) chipped in a 12.400.

On the still rings, Dieker was credited with a 13.650, while Lewis turned in a 13.250 and Graff scored a 12.950.  Lewis put together a standout showing on the vault, registering a 14.200 after Alex Campagnone (Johnston, R.I.) hit for a 14.050 and Dieker turned in a 13.300.  As two of the Pride's final competitors on the parallel bars, Haas and Mike Grimaldi (Middletown, N.J.) came through in a big way, with Haas scoring a 13.600 and Grimaldi recording a 13.000.  In their final event of the afternoon, Phil Ordonez (Jacksonville, Fla.) closed out his day with a team-best 12.900 on the horizontal bar, with Haas adding a 12.700 to pace Springfield's efforts. 

Springfield will be back in action next Sunday when it hosts William & Mary at 12 pm.
